South Asian breakfast biscuits hit the market

Kaniraa new line of breakfast biscuits featuring bold, bright and spicy flavors with nutritious, climate-friendly grains from South Asia, is the first South Asian American product to enter the Best Breakfast category for you.

Founder Vishal Ramakrishnan is on a mission to bring heritage-driven products to the “better for you” food industry through heritage-driven flavors and ingredients. As an on-the-go consultant, Vishal wanted to create a ready-to-eat breakfast that was not only rich in nutritional value, but offered more varied flavor options.

To create Kanira, Vishal was inspired by the common morning ritual in South Asian homes: stocking up on cookies and tea. Kanira Biscuits double in flavor and nutritional value with an assortment of aromatic, antioxidant-rich spices like cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg. Salty notes include turmeric and black pepper which are rich in nutritional value. Most noticeably, the central ingredient in each cookie is pearl millet – a drought-tolerant grain native to India and rich in prebiotic fibre, protein and iron, as well as essential vitamins and minerals providing energy, long-lasting sustenance and gut health support.

Kanira, which translates to “cereal” in Sanskrit, features pearl millet sourced from small farmers in Rajasthan as the main ingredient. This ancient grain native to India is a climate-smart crop, able to withstand drought conditions and high temperatures.

Each serving of five cookies contains four grams of protein, four grams of fiber and just six grams of sugar and is naturally vegan, gluten-free and free of refined sugar, artificial flavors and preservatives.
